Why train for your CPL with Learn To Fly NZ?
At Learn To Fly NZ, our unique training environment sets you apart. Based in Wānaka, at the heart of the Southern Alps, our location offers unparalleled learning opportunities. Within 30 minutes of take-off, you can experience both coastal flying towards the West Coast and true mountain flying amongst New Zealand’s iconic alpine terrain.
You will quickly become confident flying in mountainous regions and gain diverse flying experience unlike anywhere else in the South Island. Our students also benefit from minimal delays compared to major controlled airports, maximising learning efficiency. At the same time, with international airports such as Queenstown, Dunedin, and Christchurch nearby, you will build the skills needed to operate confidently in busy controlled airspace.
What’s involved in CPL training?
Flight training structure
Building on your PPL syllabus, CPL training requires you to perform manoeuvres to a higher standard. You will also learn three additional flying exercises, including the cross-country syllabus needed to reach your CPL qualification. Our experienced team will guide you through this challenging and rewarding stage of your flying journey.
Medical requirements
To hold a CPL, you will need an NZCAA Class 1 medical certificate. This is a step up from the Class 2 medical required for your PPL and involves seeing an eye specialist and having an ECG to monitor your heart health. We can assist you in finding a doctor near you for the initial examination, who will refer you to the appropriate specialists to complete your medical.
